The end of Snowpocalypse

We got about two feet over the course of 10 days which was enough to send the weather forecasters into a tizzy. Apparently it was the most snow we'd had in 70 years and it stuck around. Bellevue couldn't just shut down for a couple weeks so the plows got busy and people got out their snow chains. Here's Dave about to go to work on studded snow tires for his bike. I love this man.

Definitely sisters :)

The roads got cleared of Snowpocalypse just in time for Nana and Aunt Becky to visit! Snuggle time!

Still lots of snow out there; luckily Aunt Becky brought books!

A few weeks back Dave and Avy bicycled up to Kirkland for a vision appointment (RIP Dave's glasses, Dan found you very tasty). Now it's Ellie's turn to go with Dad to pick up his new glasses (a 22 mile round trip!). Dad's securing Ellie's hair so it stays out of her face during the trip.

Snowpocalypse!

We'll get to snowpocalypse in a moment; first we bring you pictures of these four cowboys wrangling themselves nicely.

At first we just had a little snow. Enough for a decent snowman but nothing too troublesome for life.

But then... it snowed. By mid-Friday everyone was heading home early so they didn't get stuck.

Ellie's making a zoo-pirate-ship.

So much snow they closed the studio - snow day for Dad! Here he's showing them how to pack down the snow for optimal sledding.

He also got out the leaf blower for the kids to have fun with.

And the hose because... why? Why exactly? (He was trying to make an icier path for sledding).

"I got you!"

"I sorta got you!"

Nope. Dan's more agile in snow, it turns out. Even when it's chest-high on him.

Dad about to cause an avalanche on kids' heads (the associated videos are hilarious).

A good day :)

Burying kids in the snow.

Burying Dad in the snow.

Dad somehow figured out how to nap in the snow.

All snow-covered surfaces are forfeit!

Ski Day 5

Our most ambitious endeavor yet. We decided that the littles were serious enough about skiing to warrant their own gear and so we bundled everyone up the day before our trip to bicycle down to the sports consignment shop in Issaquah. Where we bought 2 sets of skis, 2 helmets, 2 pairs of goggles, and snow boots for Momma. Then, still having a few inches of space around the littles in the trailers, we went to Trader Joes for food, and Petco for rocks. Because of course we did (it fit! It was efficient!).

It was a lot colder this trip and there was expected snow in the coming days. Theo's prepared though!

Lily's motto for the day: "Can I ski more now Mom?"

I took mostly videos because the littles are impressively good now. We had asked our nanny Autumn to come with us because at the end of day 4 both littles had been mobile enough that I couldn't keep up with both. By the end of the day though Autumn and I were mostly just standing around watching them - they have control. Here's Theo passing out from his exertions (Lily was still skiing and telling me she wasn't going to stop for sleep - mid yawn).

We got home in the middle of a snow storm!

And the next day.....

Well, we already had all the gear! Kids spent the day outside, glorious.

Dan, despite being born in Texas, is by all accounts a snowdog.

Some wonderful neighbors brought us their sleds!
